Korea National Assistive Technology
Korea Assistive Technology Center(KNAT), the start of an independent living and higher quality lives for people with disabilities!
We provide supports such as consultation, evaluation, aid and management on assistive devices to the people with disabilities and family members residing in Korea. KNAT executes policy projects of the Division of Self-sufficiency for Persons with Disabilities from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. KNAT As the starting line of an independent living and the last bastion to return after utilizing various support programs over one’s lifetime, we assist welfare and technological support to the people with disabilities.
■ Main Areas of Work
○ Consultation on means to afford assistive devices 
    - Find out eligibility and procedures for appropriate governmental and non-governmental programs that one can receive 
    - Assistive devices purchasing information
    - Operation of contact center for inquiries and One-stop service for assistive devices (nationwide call center ☎1670-5529)
○ Assistive devices suitability evaluation·Pre-purchase trials 
    - Find out appropriate assistive device for my needs 
    - Service areas : Wheelchairs and Mobility assistive devices, Aids daily living, Seating/Posture, Computer Access devices, Sensory Impairment devices, Communication assistance devices, Vehicle assistive devices, Leisure, Environmental/Housing modifications, etc.
○ Continuous assistive devices after-service
    - Regular after-service and follow-up to check the well-use of assistive devices and areas of other needs 
    - Update on the latest and improved assistive devices 
    - Maintenance services such as cleaning and repair on provide areas
○ Tours·Trainings·Public Relations
    - Provide Center visiting programs and exhibitions, and assistive device professional trainings 
    - Online resources (Website, Facebook and other SNS)
    - Offline resources (Brochures such as leaflets and manual booklets)
■ Assistive devices service system in National Rehabilitation Center(NRC)
Desire·Need for disability assistive device services arise → Hospitalization procedures depending on the needs for prescriptions → National Rehabilitation Center hospital’s doctor’s prescription → the Division of Public rehabilitation medical support → KNAT
Customized assistive devices service is provided to the people with disabilities in the local community and National Rehabilitation Center users, 
operating in all assistive devices areas except for orthotics and prosthetics. 
Service inquiries for users requires prescription from the patient’s doctor and this executes the service in NRC. 
Assistive Technology Center services : Operates on all areas of services and services with assistive devices for disabilities prescription code (MMY183) to patients and people with disabilities in the local community. Assistive devices suitability evaluations, assistive device applications, pre-purchase trials, trainings and governmental and non-governmental assistive device programs such as business connections, customized modification·production, and continuous after-services. There are around 800 assistive devices at the Central Assistive Technology Center exhibition.
■ How to use KNAT service
Sign up for consultation to receive domestic·foreign assistive devices information, assistive device suitability evaluations, applications, pre-purchase trials, trainings and various services provided by governmental and non-governmental assistive device programs, such as business connections, customized modifications·productions, and continuous after-services.
Hospitalized patients and outpatients can receive services from the Central Assistive Technology Center after the doctor’s prescriptions. 
Patients at the National Rehabilitation Center hospital and outpatients should contact their personal physicians.
For people with disabilities in the local community who needs a doctor’s prescription, register for a doctor’s appointment first from the 1st floor of the National Rehabilitation Center hospital. 
Those who do not need a prescription can still use services from the Central Assistive Technology Center without a doctor’s appointment registration.
